- I had dinner last night at Vai Restaurant at 429 Amsterdam (between 80th & 81st). The hamachi and yellowfin tuna appetizer is completely unbelievable. A ginger sauce, avocado and a hint of jalapeƱo put it over the top! Ask for a spoon to get the full delicious effect. For entree, I had a pork chop and broccolini as a side dish. The pork chop was tender and tasty with a sweet sauce that really brought out the flavor, and the broccolini was perfectly cooked. The atmosphere is perfect for a small group, a date or dining alone at the bar. Good vibe music, a nice dimly lit room and open feel really gets it done. My appetizer was $15, but my glass of cab was only $9 (and wasn't cheaply "measured" like so many other restaurants seem to be doing these days). My entree was under $20, but I had to pay extra for the side of broccolini which brought the entree cost to more than $25. Overall, the prices are somewhat steep at Vai, but it's absolutely worth it.
