What About Us? Distinguished Concerts Artist Series

When:  Friday, June 15th at 7:30pm

Where:  Jazz At Lincoln Center (33 West 60th Street between Broadway & Columbus)

“What About Us” is a musical performance featuring todayʼs youth taking on tough issues using song and dance to illustrate a more positive and peaceful world. Professional gospel singers including Robert Robertson and Darnell Davis from Minneapolis join the 84 voiced choir to bring the thrill of gospel and pop to new heights. Songs from groups such as the Black Eyed Peas, Johnny Lang, Michael Jackson, Kirk Franklin, and Minnesotaʼs own gospel composer Darnell Davis will fill the two hour show with energy that will spark hope for a better and more accepting world.  More Info

 

One Step Beyond with RJD2

Laughter in the Park 2012

For the season's premiere, NYLaughs proudly presents Jermaine Fowler, rising star and cast member of the remake of the iconic comedy series "In Living Color" which is set to air on June 17. Portugal Day (5M)

When:  Sunday, June 17th from 8:00am-1:00pm

Where:  Central Park (Start at Central Park’s West Drive at 69th Street)

Come out at celebrate with friends and family on Father's Day and learn about the festive culture of Portugal at this five-mile race and kids' races. For families with young children, this event is a wonderful opportunity for a health-promoting activity for all on a summer morning in beautiful Central Park. Older children can run the four-mile race with Dad (and Mom!), while younger kids (ages 2-12) can register for the kids' races. Portuguese food and music will add fun and flavor to the post-race festivities.  More Info

 

Blue Note Jazz Festival

When:  June 17th from 6:00-10:00pm

Where:  Central Park's Rumsey Playfield

Featuring a sensational grouping of performers, this is one jazz concert you cannot miss!  At the age of 18, urban chanteuse, Amel Larrieux wrote and demoed a song, which led to her pairing with musician/producer Bryce Wilson to form the duo Groove Theory. When brothers Neal and Alan Evans first invited guitarist Eric Krasno to get down at their Woodstock, NY studio, it was out of mutual love for the great soul-jazz organ trios of the 60’s and 70’s.  As The Roots’ drummer and joint front-man, DJ ?uestlove is well known across the musical sphere. Whether known for the twelve albums The Roots produced or his performances with the band on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, ?uestlove’s impact on music today is undeniable.  More Info
