The 2012 season of Powerhouse Theater, that fertile summer breeding ground for new dramatic works brought to us lucky mid-Hudsonites by the collaboration of Vassar College and New York Stage and Film, continues this weekend with a workshop version of a new rock musical. A tale of a love triangle gone wrong, Murder Ballad centers on Sara, an Upper West Side Mom who seems to have it all, but whose downtown past lingers enticingly and dangerously in front of her. Man stabbed to death on Upper West Side
Police say they found a man stabbed to death on the Upper West Side Friday afternoon. Officers responded to a call around 3:00 p.m. at Narragansett Hotel on 2508 Broadway between West 93rd and West 94th Streets. Inside one of the rooms police found a 56-year-old man with a stab wound to his chest. EMS arrived to the scene and pronounced the victim dead. Read More
Beefy the Skateboarding Bulldog to Roll Across USA in Breast Cancer Fight
Beefy, the skateboarding bulldog, is getting the fight against breast cancer on a roll. The owners of the Upper West Side pooch, who became an internet sensation last year after videos of his skating prowess went viral, are planning to take their four-legged pal on a cross-country tour to raise money to fight the deadly ailment. Patrick and Erin Clemens launched an Indiegogo campaign earlier this month to help raise $200,000 to fund "Beefy Skates the Nation," which will support Boarding for Breast Cancer, a non-profit that works to increase awareness about breast cancer and teach women potentially life-saving self-examination and early-detection techniques. Grocery shopping just got a little easier for men. The Westside Market on 110th Street and Broadway on the Upper West Side now has a “man aisle.” “Initially it was a joke,” CEO George Zoitas told 1010 WINS. “We were tossing around an idea about maybe making a man section with everything a man would need, whatever men buy.” Read More
