Cleo Parker Robinson Dance Ensemble

Denver’s Cleo Parker Robinson Dance Ensemble has been exploring cross-cultural dance arts rooted in African-American traditions for more than four decades. Tonight’s program features excerpts from Lush Life, Robinson’s 1984 jazz, poetry, and dance collaboration with Maya Angelou; the premiere of Fusion by celebrated Haitian choreographer Jeanguy Saintus of Ayikodans; Arranged by Milton Myers; and excerpts from Robinson’s gospel-inspired Spiritual Suite. Shakespeare in the Park: Into the Woods

In Into the Woods, a witch's curse condemns the Baker and his Wife to a life without children. They embark on a quest to find the four items required to break the spell: the cow as white as milk, the cape as red as blood, the hair as yellow as corn, and the slipper as pure as gold. Will they succeed?  And what happens after "happily ever after?" A Tony Award-winning masterpiece by musical theater giants Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine, Into the Woods is a witty and irreverent reimagining of beloved classic fairytales: Jack and the Beanstalk, Little Red Riding Hood, Rapunzel, and Cinderella.  More Info

China Heavyweight

Award-winning filmmaker Yung Chang (Up the Yangtze) returns to China for another riveting documentary on that country's ever-changing economic landscape-this time through the lens of sports. In China Heavyweight, Chang follows the charismatic Qi Moxiang, a former boxing star and state coach who recruits young fighting talent from the impoverished farms and villages across Sichuan province. A select few boys (and girls) are sent to national training centers, with the hope of discovering China's next Olympic heroes.  More Info
